An Intimate, Urban Wedding Experience in the Heart of Brooklyn
Micro weddings continue to grow in popularity — not as a compromise, but as a choice. Couples are intentionally opting for smaller guest counts, meaningful moments, and venues that support intimacy without sacrificing atmosphere. Deity Brooklyn is one of those venues that truly understands how to host a micro wedding well.
Having photographed multiple weddings at Deity, I’ve seen firsthand how beautifully it adapts to smaller celebrations. One wedding in particular — with fewer than 50 guests — perfectly showcased how thoughtful planning and the right venue can create a relaxed, seamless, and elevated wedding day.
Why Deity Brooklyn Works So Well for Micro Weddings
Deity Brooklyn is designed with flexibility in mind. With multiple floors, distinct spaces, and a team that knows how to move a wedding day along smoothly, it offers couples the ability to create a full wedding experience — just on a more intimate scale.
For micro weddings, this means:
-
No wasted space
-
No overwhelming guest flow
-
And no need to “fill” a room just to make it feel right
Everything feels intentional.
Starting the Day with a First Look (A Practical Part of the Timeline)
When planning a wedding at Deity, it’s helpful for couples to know that rehearsals are built into the flow of the day. Because of this, a first look isn’t simply a stylistic choice — it often becomes a practical and natural part of the timeline.
For Kat and Karim, this meant planning their first look before arriving at the venue. They chose to see each other nearby in DUMBO, along the waterfront close to the ferry and cafés. It was easy to access, didn’t require extra travel time, and gave them a quiet, meaningful moment together before stepping into the structure of the day.
That choice allowed them to:
-
Share a private moment together
-
Settle nerves early
-
Arrive at Deity feeling present and relaxed
-
Move through rehearsals calmly, without feeling rushed
First looks can also happen on site at Deity, which can be especially helpful when weather is unpredictable. The venue offers covered outdoor spaces, including a balcony area that allows couples to enjoy natural light and an open-air feel while still being protected from the elements. It’s a beautiful option for couples who want flexibility without losing the intimacy of the moment.
Whether planned intentionally or simply understood as part of the venue’s flow, preparing for this moment helped Kat and Karim begin their wedding day with ease — setting the tone for everything that followed.
And rehearsals feel calm instead of rushed
First looks can absolutely be done on site as well, but having the option to step away briefly — especially with Deity’s proximity to DUMBO — is a major advantage.

Ceremony, Cocktail Hour, and a Seamless Flow
Once at Deity, everything moves with intention.
The Loft is used for ceremony space is set and ready upon arrival, with the on-site managers guiding the process effortlessly. They are attentive, organized, and very experienced — which makes a huge difference for couples hosting smaller weddings who want things to feel smooth and unforced.

After the ceremony, guests typically transition while the space is flipped for dinner.
In this particular wedding, because the guest count was under 50, the traditional cellar ballroom (which features a disco ball and bold Brooklyn character) felt a bit too large. Instead, guests were welcomed into one of Deity’s Lounge. This area features a hexagon shaped bar — where guests may enjoy cocktails and horderves. Beyond the bar, the sunken lounge area with comfortable velvet banquet seating surround the trea of life, which is beautifully covered in twinkle lights. Overall, the cocktail area is perfectly scaled for an intimate weddings.
This allowed:
-
Guests to enjoy cocktails comfortably
-
The ceremony space to be flipped without disruption
-
And the evening to unfold naturally
Once dinner was ready, everyone transitioned back for a seated meal.
Dinner, Drinks, and the Reception Experience
Deity is known for its food — and consistently, it delivers.
Dinner service is efficient, generous, and thoughtfully timed. Guests are well fed, drinks continue to flow, and there’s never a sense of being rushed. For micro weddings, this is especially important because guests are more engaged, conversations linger longer, and the experience feels communal rather than scheduled.
After dinner, the couple had the freedom to design their reception exactly how they wanted — whether that meant returning to the cellar for dancing or keeping the celebration more low-key upstairs with a DJ and cocktails.
The beauty of Deity is that nothing feels forced. The venue supports both high-energy celebrations and more relaxed, intimate evenings equally well.

Getting Ready at Deity: A Comfortable Option
For couples who want to get ready on site, Deity offers spacious suites that make the experience feel calm and luxurious.
In another wedding I photographed, the couple chose to use the penthouse suite:
-
The bride and her group used the main bedroom with a king-size sleigh bed
-
The groom and best man had space on the other side
-
And when they were ready for their first look, they used the balcony and interior space
Originally planned for the pool area, the first look was easily adjusted due to weather — another reminder of how adaptable the venue is.
This flexibility is invaluable on a wedding day.
An Urban Venue That Needs Very Little Styling
One of the strongest aspects of Deity Brooklyn is its built-in character.
The venue is urban, architectural, and thoughtfully designed. Because of this, micro weddings here don’t require heavy décor or elaborate floral installations. A bouquet, simple arrangements, or minimal accents are often more than enough.
The space already brings:
-
Warm textures
-
Brooklyn character
-
Visual interest without distraction
For couples who prefer a clean, modern aesthetic, Deity allows the focus to stay on the people and the experience — not the decorations.
A Note on Guest Flow
Because Deity spans multiple floors, guests do move between spaces throughout the evening. This is usually handled smoothly by the staff, but it’s something couples should keep in mind during planning — especially if they have guests who may need accommodations.
I always recommend couples ask the venue directly about accessibility options so they can plan accordingly.
